| Handcrafted Whimsical Wizardly Sculptured Wood Wands | |||

I prefer to craft my wands from hand selected tree branch wood because each branch is unique in regards to shape, grain pattern, knots, burls and especially when age introduces blemishes, twists, and includes surprises that are exposed as the wood is being carved. The wood I use is typically, Walnut, Oak, Maple, Hawthorn, and Willow.
The process begins with selecting a branch because of its unique characteristics, then cutting it to a desired length, stripping the bark off, carving the piece into a wand configuration that best works with the wood, sanding, staining, and seal coating to protect the wand and its finish. Many different tools are used. The entire process of making one wand takes many hours of painstaking but enjoyable effort. Seeing a tree branch wood transform into a completed wand is inspiring. Medieval Gem Tipped WandThis branches unique shape had a medieval calling. I took advantage of the large end to create a rustic handle look with openings. The blue gem is actually part of the wood branch but carved to give the appearance of a ancient gem stone held in place by a claw-like grip. Serpent Wand
The serpent and wand were carved from the same piece of wood. It was carved to look like the serpent is resting on the wand. To further enhance this, the serpant was stained with a clear stain to bring out the natural wood grain and color while the carved wand portion was stained with Dark Cherry stain. Mystic Pointer with Knotted handleThe grain of the wood guided me throughout the entire carving process to create this wand. The knotted handle adds to it’s rustic look. As a bonus, nature created an artistic flower in the form of a line-drawing on one segment of the diamond shaped tip. I used two coats of a natural stain to enhance the overall appearance of the grain pattern, especially the flower.

Mystical Viper Wand This wand depicts a mystical viper with his long white fangs, blood red mouth, and small eyes, including his rattler segments on it's tail. The fangs were created separately from a hard wood for strength. The wand is stained with Red Mahogany stain with the exception of the painted parts then protected with multiple coats of clear sealer.
